The United States 2¢ Landing of Columbus stamp, entitled Columbus Soliciting Aid Of Isabella, was Created By Alfred Major, Major based the design on an 1884 painting By Vaclav Brozik called Columbus At The Court Of Ferdinand and Isabella, The engraving was done By Alfred Jones and Charles Skinner. Issued In 1893, Commemorates The 400th Anniversary Of Christopher Columbus’s Arrival In The Americas. The stamp features an image of Columbus coming ashore at Guanahani (San Salvador) in the West Indies. One of the more interesting varieties of this stamp is the “Broken Hat” variety. This flaw produces a break in the hat of the third figure to the left of Columbus in the stamp design.
